I don't want to be misinterpreted here -- I am not criticizing the effort
Tucows and OpenSRS has made, or the overall positive effect opening up the
registration process has had. I just think that $2 (which as the other
message I just sent out in response to a mathematician on the list argues
could be viewed as either a 25 percent or a 20 percent difference, depending
on your perspective) is a significant change in a low-margin area, and some
warning or consultation would have been nice. I hope it was justified, but
I personally have no way of judging that given the lack of information.
Since this is such a generally cooperative effort, why not at least some
explanation for this change?
Yes, I don't think one can make a fortune on this business by any means,
even with the extra $2, without adding other services and marketing other
products. But in any market situation a 20/25 percent move in price is
considered quite significant.
