It sounds as though you're not properly attempting to connect to port 43
of our whois server. If your script is attempting to open the same port
on your own box, it MUST be run as root (port 43 being in the >1024
protected ports range).
If your script is just attempting to connect to an outside port, ensure
it's trying the correct port and address.
This is far beyond the scope of what we can successfully support here at
OpenSRS. My staff are not programmers, but they're quite familiar with
the OpenSRS system. My best suggestion is to read up on coding on some
mailing lists, and read the RFC for whois (I don't know what the actuall #
is).
