RE: phpDomain (OpenSRS + Billing) for $49.95!

I've never been charged for any help. They have a forum that's answered A
LOT of my questions by searching for the error. 90% of the time it has
already been brought up and answered on how to fix it. Then there's
support@phpdomains.org (I think that's the email address), and they've
helped me with the other 10% of the problems, and I think all of those were
more user error than the script (I overlooked a setting or typed something
incorrect).

I did purchase the Pro beta version 2 days ago and paid the $90 for the
installation. $90 + $49.95 is a lot cheaper than hiring a PHP/MySQL
contractor to make something from scratch. The $90 is more insurance for
me. Someone that works for the company and supports the product will
install it, and will install it correctly. That's worth the $90 for me.

I did miss on how to schedule the install, but a person by the name of
Pierre-Luc Soucy replied to me within 5 minutes and told me it will be
installed within 36 hours. general@phpdomain.org answering an email within
5 minutes impressed me. Working with Fortune 500 companies, I hardly ever
get an answer that quick. (Maybe that's why I like working with small
businesses more.)

So far I have been impressed by the service and support of this company.
Even though their web site has several glitches in it, they've been great.

Greetings,

This is a curious issue. First Colin -- I have spoken with the programmer
and he has told me that the function which was inspired by your code was
completely rewritten in one of the early versions. I am not sure what
the exact story is, but I am told that your code was *never* included in the
product, and he was "inspired" by your work, essentially saying he
has read your code before, but didn't use it. In any case, those routines
or functions have all been rewritten.

Yes, to download the code, we ask that you do register.

I'm going to assume this email of yours is related to other thread about GPL
issues. If so, and if the Pro Version isn't LGPL, I have an issue here as
well, since I know that the Basic/Free version is based quite heavily on my
opensource PHP client freely available at http://opensrs-php.sf.net.
Previous conversations I've had with the developers confirmed this fact.

Further, they are bundling several classes that are part of PEAR
(http://pear.php.net), authored by myself and others, which are released
under the PHP License. I'm not sure what the details are on selling code
that includes those classes.

I would also point out that the links to the Terms & Conditions on the
following page are non-existant:

There is a download link right in the middle of the front page of their
site. You have to register to get to the download (which kinda sucks,
IMHO), but it's there.
