Wait, first you say the code was completely rewritten then you say the code
was inspired? If it was completely rewritten then you did use his code for
the basis of this program, thus there are either license violation issues
or copyright violation issues. If it was simply inspired then there is no
harm and no foul, if you can prove that.
You should be able to easily show this by showing the first version of the
code and all the versions in-between the first and the current. If the
first versions were opensrs-php modifications, then you have a real
problem, both legally and ethically.
You need to find out for sure which is it and be able to prove it. It does
make a huge difference in the eyes of the law and courts which way it was
done.
