My name is Joey deVilla, and I'm the Tucows Technical Community
Development Coordinator. One of the responsibilities of this position
is to foster good relations between Tucows and the development
community.
One of things I do in fulfilling that responsibility is manage the
lines of communication between Tucows and developers. To that end, I
have been assigned the responsibility of becoming the List
Administrator (a.k.a. "List Dad" for the following mailing lists and
newsgroups:
- bizops-list
- dev-list
- discuss-list
- tucows.nse.blogware.general
- tucows.nse.blogware.dev
This position will largely involve "housekeeping" -- maintaining the
lists and newsgroups listed above, unsubscribing accounts that are
spamming, maintaining the archives. I will also do a little moderation
-- in moderation. I will also be doing some research into your
preferred forum of discussion and see how we can improve our feedback
structure based on that.
I am on vacation at the moment and will start "active duty" as "List
Dad" on Monday, June 28th. My first two major tasks will be:
1. Disable attachments
Right now, you can send attachments to the mailing lists, and this has
been a vector to viruses and other types of "malware". I've discussed
this with some other people here at Tucows, and we feel that there
really isn't a need for people to post attachments to the mailing lists
or newsgroups.
2. Disable subscribers whose email uses a challenge/response system
Challenge/response systems block automated mail systems, which are not
only spam-senders, but mailing-list software as well. They play havoc
with the mailing lists. To people who are subscribing to the lists
using a challenge/response system, we ask that you create an email
account solely for mailing list purposes.
