SGI use MIPS processors don't they? They're big-endian so I'm afraid
you're out of luck. The des.c in the Crypt::DES perl module only works
on little-endian processors. I have exactly the same problem trying to
use it on SPARC. I'm considering devoting some time to fixing this
since my Sun box is the one I *really* want to use, but it's not likely
to be soon; I have enough Linux/x86 boxen around that it's not going to
get time until my queue of other things to do is empty.

If some other kind soul wants to fix it or knows of a fix, they would
have my eternal gratitude and possibly a small bar of chocolate :-)
