Domain Username & Password Question

Hello all.

I recently started developing an application to use the full access version
of OpenSRS.

Upon registration to our system, we are capturing all the information that
would be needed when someone is ready to register their domain name (such as
username, password, contact info, etc.)

My question is, How would I capture the username and password without the
client having initially registering a domain name?

Is their an api to check if a username and password exists in the opensrs
database?

If a username hasn't been used, is there a way to register that username
without initially registering a domain?
