des install on raq3

I am having all sorts of problems installing DES (and DBD/DBI for that
matter - so I've stuffed something up !) on a RAQ3 - tells me it can't do a
make without a force. If someone else has succeeded in this or can provide
some advice can they contact me off-list so that I can pick little pieces of
their brain plaease ?
