This could be for a few reasons.

a) horizon is less robust than the live system(s)
b) the client code now speaks in XML, which increases the amount of data
being passed between the client and server
c) .uk lookups are reliant on a different system - we don't have a
realtime lookup to the registry, so we do tricks (using whois and other
methods that I'm not fully knowledgable about)
d) it's cloudy
