There is perl code to do nslookup, try cpan.perl.org, but that isn't the
best way to check if a domain is available.
Opensrs client does do a lookup, it's like looking into the root registry
and getting a definative answer as to a domains availability. The closest
information you can get a whois lookup from the root.
