Paul,

There was quite a bit of discussion (what a couple years ago) about such
an API feature (a flag to either pend or register). I thought it finally got
implemented, but since we took our own approach, I never pursued it.

If said flag does exist, the ability to unpend via the API would made it a
complete solution.
