Good to hear from you again Tim. We should try and catch up sometime
soon.
It was never our intent to "enforce" the GPL/LGPL license as it related
to the client code etc. The problem that once released in this manner,
it has the potential to be used and abused in many different weird and
wonderful ways - it would definitely cost more to enforce than what it
would be worth. I can't imagine doing code inspections or whatever else
it might take to prove infringement against "suspected offenders".
Of course, this isn't an invitation to abuse our good nature. If we are
made aware of specific violations, we will pursue the matter.
If it ever becomes an issue, we will have to revisit the "honor system"
we've chosen, but it has worked pretty good over the past few years...
In the meantime, let's both continue to remind people that hack the code
that it needs to be released according to the terms of the applicable
license (L/GPL) :)
