two-letter name and old Perl scripts

There are some two-letter ORG domains name that are available.

The new OpenSRS scripts show them as available when you do a
check_domain command, but the old Perl scripts (really old ones) show
them as taken.

Is this a known bug in the old scripts? Does anyone else even use them
anymore?
