Well - to be exact your only looking at $6,000 to ICANN and $10,000 to
NSI. Only $5,000 of that is paid yearly to ICANN as a registrar renewal
fee. You have to prove you have $70,000 in working capital, and then you
provide NSI with a $100,000 performance bond or performance assurance.

That's peanuts. Many domain speculators who actually make money have no
problem with meeting those requirement.

I've heard talk one ICANN accredited is thinking of reselling at $7.00 per
domain. Even with that small margin it is very possible to make money
provided you have volumn.

But as i said before these are not major barriers nor do they guarantee we
get quality registrars - and the evidence of that is showing in the
system. To many mistakes, too many problems, too many headaches, for too
many people.

I would prefer the costs would be more like a 10,000 apllication fee,
$50,000 in yearly fees to ICANN and $500,000 in working capital (minimum
- and I think 500K is a low ball figure) and $5 million in
insurance. Those figures would be more realistic.

I predict the liability train will soon arrive on ICANN's doorstep and the
measures put in place will not be sufficient.
