ICANN also has requirements in the application process that address this
issue as well, specifically section VI.10 of the registrar application:

"i. What is your capability (or proposal for capability) for providing SLD
holders with continued use of their domain names in the event you go out
of business or otherwise cease to operate as an ICANN-accredited registrar
of SLDs in the .com, .net, and .org TLDs?"

Personally I think the most logical move for any reseller in this event
would be to simply become a registrar themselves and petition ICANN
to be delegated the domains they've registered. At least that's what
we'd be doing.

(But then again, if a meteor took out Tucows we would probably experience
problems of our own, seeing as they're across the street from us :)
