I live in Hong Kong, so I know a bit about .hk domains. HKNIC charges a
one-time HK$200 fee to register any .hk domain, there is no yearly
renewal fee, but this fee is also applicable whenever you want to make
changes to the record in future. Unlike .com/net/org, there are some
very strict rules regarding application for .hk domains though. You have
to be a registered business in Hong Kong in order to get one. HKNIC
requires you to present the Business Registration Certificate at the
time of application, and each Business Registration Certificate (i.e.
each registered company) is only entitled to one .hk domain name.
Besides, you'll also have to have the DNS set up properly for the domain
you're applying for BEFORE they approve your application (they will
actually query your DNS to see if it responds to the domain name).

You can go to http://www.hknic.net.hk for more information. You may also
want to contact a local ISP or web hosting company here because I think
it's not easy for people from overseas to register any .hk names. Try
http://www.helix.com.hk for a start.

As for .cn names I don't know much about. But from what I've heard it's
even more difficult to register, I imagine it would be very tough for
anyone from outside mainland China to get one.

Best Regards,
Franky Tong
