It would be nice.. but I am sure there would be implications in this.

At the moment US TLDs are handled by multiple registrars, so that's why they
can do it. Most other TLDs have just the one registrar. Unless the abuse
their monopoly, then it will stay that way, and they will have to stay just
US.
