Well, it's quite different in Germany though (the country with the most
domain names
in Europe): The central NIC (Denic) isn't selling directly to the public,
but only through
resellers / ISPs who are member of Denic. Every reseller can set his own
price, paying
merely a flat rate to Denic instead of a per-domain-rate, resulting in
quite low prices. These
resellers are basically acting as registrars themselves, having access to
the NIC (RIPE)
Database and being the only point of contact for the customers. With a
constellation like
this, it may make sense for someone like OpenSRS to join, if the
cross-country-policy permits.
