NameZero is the domain-name-registrar equivalent of Hotmail at al.
They will register your nominated domain name and give you a Control Panel
to manage a POP box and mail and URL redirection for that domain, and a
WebMail service to access your mailbox... all for free!

I've set up a few people on NameZero, and their service seems reliable.
However, on at least one occasion redirected mail was delayed for a day or
so, and their web site has been inaccessible for minutes at a time many
times a day - something which users initially find very disturbing, until
they learn to adopt a "retry" procedure.

Not bad QOS for a free service!

But make no mistake - it is very clear in all NameZero's communications that
NameZero is the domain name registrant, not the punter. They say they will
sell you the domain for $15, but they offer few guidelines about how this
happens (how long does it take? only after one year?), and they don't profer
a payment method.

I'd be very interested to hear more about this aspect.
