I believe the delay is directly proportional to how early you joined the list (and, therefore, how far down the distribution list you are). For example, I joined discuss-list before OpenSRS was even live, and I generally receive my own postings back very quickly. I didn't join dev-list until many months later, and it often takes 45 minutes or more to get my posts back.
It dawned on me a few days ago that this explains why I often see personal responses to my messages LONG before my message has appeared on the list (from my perspective).

I am noticing it takes as much as an hour before message I send to the lists. Any ideas why that might be?
Also, why is this list set up to direct replies back to the author, rather than the list? I usually forget to hit "reply to all", since most lists don't work this way anymore. And, even if I do hit reply to all, I likely to forget to remove the extra email addresses?
