I take it then that you are always in front with your rent and/or mortgage
payments and have never gone into arrears on any such expenses?

To me it is much like having a rent or lease due, some latitude is always
necessary. But I would suggest 7 days or at most 30.

I think we should agree to disagree on this topic.

You (as a reseller or registrar) can show all the courtesy you want to your customer, EXCEPT when it deprives ME (or anyone, really) the right to register a domain that is not bought-and-paid-for already.

You want to show the courtesy to your customer? You pay for it, keep it alive and out of the pool and recoup your expense and maybe a nice added "emergency rescue fee". Don't hold a domain out of the general populace without anyone paying for it.
