You can't register in the top level of .uk
There are a few knocking around, but they are historical.

Is there such thing as a plain .uk name? The company I am registering for has registered operations/branch in the UK.
The form at the Nominet ( www.nic.uk ) site has
<OPTION VALUE="co.uk">.co.uk <OPTION VALUE="org.uk">.org.uk <OPTION VALUE="ltd.uk">.ltd.uk <OPTION VALUE="plc.uk">.plc.uk <OPTION VALUE="sch.uk">.sch.uk <OPTION VALUE="net.uk">.net.uk
If there is no .uk, I might as well just do the .co.uk myself, right ?
