Re: expired domain names

Whois is like the telephone directory. If you want to start/stop/change
your phone service, it will be reflected in the phone book the next time
a new edition is published, but your change does not depend on the new
phone book being published. In the same way, a Whois update merely
reflects (not controls) changes made since the previous update.

In your example, the whois database was updated at around 2:00 AM. The
domain name probably became available for registration around 6:30 AM.
So by the time Whois was updated, it was almost 20 hours after the
domain became available, and someone else registered it in that time.
