Does remaining domain registration time carry over to new registrar?

I know, this has been done to death - but I can't find the answer
immediatly...

If a user transfers their registration to us, do we need to "do" anyting to
ensure that the remaing time on their account is maintained. If it expires
in October, and they transfer now, I still only charge the standard
registration fee don't I?
