Pending Orders that are "taken" but there is no WHOIS...

Anyone else having this problem?

For the last hour or so orders for new domain names that come in for new
registrations are being held in our pending order queue even though the
whois servers tell me that they are available for registration.... I can't
belive that 4 different orders in the last hour all hit some sort of
quasi-deleted stage and that is causing the problem...

Please any input is useful.... (well, in theory at least).
