Please find following an update on OpenSRS.
1. .ca registrations - pricing change
-------------------
As you may be aware, CIRA (the .ca registry operator) has
announced a pricing change for .ca domain year transactions
(new registrations, transfers and renewals) effective
February 1, 2002.
As a result of this change, we have examined our .ca
operations in order to assess what pricing we can extend to
resellers going forward. We have found that:
- .ca related support requests account for a relatively
large part of our support and admin departments operational
costs
- the .ca registry has required significantly more development
effort as a result of a proprietary and unique registry
implementation
We're pleased to announce that effective February 1, 2002, the
baseline Tucows OpenSRS Reseller price for .ca registry
transactions will DECREASE from USD$19 to USD$18. This change
does represent a net increase in our margin for .ca products,
however, this is a natural reflection of the higher overhead
required to transact with this registry. We hope you can
appreciate the extra efforts that are required on our behalf
to inter-operate with this registry.
