As it turns out the rep didn't know what she was talking about (People
will make up anything when they don't know, huh?).
The reseller who registered the domains has a past due balance and the
transfer was help up until it is cleared up. Apparently they won't let
the names transfer away while there is a balance due on the account,
even if the domain in question is renewed.
They gave me a case number to call back in three days. They are going to
take the name out of the resellers account so I have access directly.

they illegally made some pay for another year
when the domain was within 2 month prior to expiry.
