Have you looked at UWHOIS.COM? I see no affiliation -- not even banner ads
linking the site to any registrars. It seems that some folks are truly
attempting to fulfill a perceived need.

This is one of the very reasons we opted to write an agent that parses data
from a 3rd-party WHOIS service, rather than write our own complex solution.
We were being denied access to a WHOIS lookup (Ireland, I believe it was)
though ALLWHOIS.COM was returning useful results. Perhaps I didn't dig long
enough, but it seemed to make our path clear at the time.
