Hi Ross

I was possibly a little harsh there - apologies, and indeed you are right to
a degree, however my point is that the program is tilted towards RSPs who
exclusively use OpenSRS for all available tlds. As much as we would love to
pass all our UK registrations through OpenSRS we would loose several really
quite important benefits to ourselves, not least that as members of Nominet
we have a real voice that enables us to affect .UK policy. We would loose
this (and in the current .uk marketplace, fair, service driven companies are
as rare as hens teeth), and our members rate of £5 per domain and many
functions we have that OpenSRS can not provide, for example we can have a
name server or IPS TAG changed in less than 24 hours, and provide our
customers with a far better level of support than we had to contact Nominet
through OpenSRS.

The issue I was concerned about is that because we do not pass .uk reg's
through OpenSRS (the majority of our business) we are likely to be at a
disadvantage in our dealings with OpenSRS under the criteria you published,
although as I said I can understand your preference for us to pass all our
registration business through OpenSRS, it is not the best service provision
for our customers.

The irony is really that we long standing Nominet members voted for this
kind of open low cost .uk registry for the benefit of all, including
OpenSRS - now we face the reality that under these criteria we may have to
consider giving up our autonomy in order to benefit from the larger gTLD
and ccTLD business that inclusion in the RSP list would give us. - and
effectively hand some of the larger less scrupulous .uk registration
companies the keys to the registry.

This of course does not apply to the less open and often very restricted and
over priced cc registries that other international RSPs are members of - and
that OpenSRS can not or do not wish to deal with.

I don't wish to sound like I am bitching... I am just raising a point that
is possibly quite important to other UK RSPs who are also Nominet members.

Kind regards

David Dorey

We're still the same company that you signed up with and we haven't lost
site of the value that working with small(er) businesses brings to the
table. At the end of the day, there's only 500 companies in the Fortune 500.
We've typically done much better working with the !Fortune 500....
