HTTP is the protocol designed to deliver HTML, therefore I would expect to
find HTML at websites. E-mail is a text based medium. Webistes are an
HTML based medium.

HTML in e-mail allows virus propogation and makes it real easy for
spammers to confirm they have a valid e-mail address and/or to hijack your
machine.

I see something like the following in a lot of HTML spams:
<img src="http://spammers.web.site/cgi/track.cgi?email=youraddress@yourdomain">

If you view said message, your e-mail address has just become more
valuable to spammers.
