One thing that I've not seen mentioned in this very long thread is the
possibility that people could be useing a monitoring service for legit reasons.

We do have a service for this that we're still working on, and frequently get
calls from people looking for a domain that's being dropped. They're not
looking for a "sex.com", just a name they've wanted for some time and it's now
coming available.

Another common application for this service is to try to recover a name from
redemption period, be it a name that we had registered, a transfer that could
not make it through for various reasons or whatever. Depending on the name, a
good monitoring service can be a viable alternative to paying the redemption
fee.
