I agree with this part of your message.
If you don't like the direction tucows is going, you should consider switching to a company that serves you better.
It does not do any good to complain on this list about what tucows does or intends to do in the future nor how it treats it's resellers.
Treat this issue as a business decision, the same as for all your other suppliers. Go with the Registrar that provides you with the best price for the level of service you require.
If it is Tucows then stay with them and accept that they are changing their business concept to add other services. Or at least changing the business concept as many of us who started from the first thought was their business concept.
If you can not accept the new concept of Tucows providing all the extra services as genetic services then it may be time for you to leave.
However most of the new Registrar companies are now providing these extra services as part of the domain package.
In the past we charged $20 per year for domain redirection, now it is free as part of the domain registration fee. So we dropped that fee and now advertise free domain redirection with every registration or transfer. We charged $29.00 per year for a POP3 email only account but now the Registrar offers it for $19.95. So we now sell the Registrar's package if a client request's this and make $10 on it Not as much as before but not much else we can do once the Registrar decided to offer POP3 email only accounts. As the saying goes, when the market hands you lemons, sell lemonade.
Tucows is a good company for those that can not manage a server nor write the code to provide the extra services. They will pay a premium for the services provided by Tucows but will be able to provide them to their clients at a low mark up.
There are worse companies than tucows.
Godaddy.com provides domain registration to the public for $8.95 per year, web hosting from $5.95 per month and Email accounts from $9.95 per year. So other registrars are not only doing what tucows is discusing but slashing prices at the same time so it becomes difficult for anybody to earn a profit.
