I am sorry, but Gandi (ICANN accredited Registrar, handling more than
400000 domain names) is exactly in position 1:
- no other services than domain name registrations (except some
others based on DNS and web/email redirections, but they are free)
- no other business units, at least for now since 1999
- no other services/revenue generators whatsoever
- no parent companies
- a *lot* of benefit

So, this position is not a myth. It is possible, at least it was in
1999-2002, and I can't say if it will be the same in the following
years.
