Right; I did "get it". But the joke you made stated that people who
support a certain political candidate are from another planet --
apparently a planet of stupid people, like the Verisign spokesperson.
Perhaps that's not what you meant, but that's how it read.
It doesn't take a lot of thought to realize that some members of the list
are going to be offended by that implication. And that leads to Gray
Davis supporters defending their positions, Gray Davis opponents
defending theirs, and so on and so forth until someone compares someone
to Hitler and everyone hates each other for years.
