Hi Kai,

Surprising is right. We received notification from Verisign late Friday
regarding this conversion. The original plan back in the summer was that
Verisign would give registrars a six month migration window, I hope this is
still the case. We do plan on supporting this new Punnycode standard, the
only question that I can't answer at this point is when. As always we will
give you all plenty of notice (lots more than VeriSign gave us! ;)

Cheers,

James

Subject: FYI: Verisign IDNs converted to Punycode overnight

In a surprising move Verisign has converted all bq-- multilinguals to
Punycode during the weekend. They are going to accept RACE registrations for
a while and will convert them automatically.
Now the big question is: when will Tucows change to Punycode? As long as
Tucows hasn't changed 1. management of these domains will fail because not
found at the Registry 2. new registrations should work, but may accept
already existing domains?
(because RWI tests bq-- strings)
