To some degree, at least, I think that was the point. Competition has
driven the cost down, which has benefitted consumers but hurt businesses.

I'm still of the opinion that not all customers base their buying
decisions strictly on price...the challenge is in being able to explain
to them what's different between your $12 (?) domain name and the other
guys $6.99 name. BUT, you're absolutely right that it's become
significantly harder to make a buck at this. Thank God it's not our
primary business!
