Hello
Speaking of transfers, has anyone had to transfer a .ca from one reseller to
another after (or very close to) expiry when the admin email address is not
valid?
I have just had my first truly bad experience with Tucows. But it may be
because what they did last year was go above and beyond the call of duty so
to speak.
Last year, I had a client who wished to transfer a domain name that had
expired. The admin email address was based on that domain name and as a
result no longer worked. I submitted the transfer request. OpenSRS sent out
the confirmation notice, then when it bounced, they sent me the bounce
message. We considered submitting an admin email change request, but Tucows'
extremely friendly & helpful support told me that that would take up to two
weeks, and that instead, they just needed a fax on company letterhead (along
with verifiable identification etc.) requesting an RSP to RSP transfer. I
have the fax & the bounce message still in my files.
I have a similar situation now, the only differences being that the name
hasn't yet expired, and the admin email address is invalid for a different
reason. However the name expires on Monday, so the "up to two weeks" to get
that changed will put my client in a very bad situation if his name is not
transferred by then (The current RSP is refusing to renew because of a
payment dispute regarding a service not connected with this domain name).
The support person I talked to at Tucows called me a liar, and that never
would the previous situation have taken place because "we cannot do things
like that", "the name was not expired" & "the email address was valid". (His
words quoted).
I have since talked to a different tech support person at Tucows and he is
looking up my story about last year. He stopped short of saying they could
repeat the process though.
Any ideas or experiences?
Thanks
Brian O'Donnell
