4th level subdomains in DNS

I have searched the archives, and have screwed around with the DNS
interface for about a half hour.

Either I am completely broken, or it is.

Why can't I create 4th-level subdomain hostnames, e.g.
admin.www.domain.tld?

I get the following error:

Product item command error: Product validation failed;Product contains
invalid records;: Product validation failed;Product contains invalid
records;
