I would suggest following Ross' advice (from the second link above) and
report it to the FTC. The more complaints they get, the more likely they
will do something about it.
While doing some quick searches, I noticed that the .US Registry has even
issued a consumer alert about this particular scam:

With that said, this a a very old scam that has been run under various
