Don't assume this, at least in Australia they can be a little slow on
cashing the cheque. My client put a stop on the cheque (weeks after
posting it -- it had not been cashed), and we informed them that we had
done this as a courtesy. They did not complain, actually the person I
spoke to was surprisingly polite.
