| Hi Mark,
|
| Yes got the SEO world all stirred up (where I spend 90% of my time) -
|
| Apparently they may have become registrars to gain access to information
| otherwise hidden to us mere mortals. Supposedly, a registrar has access
| to the detailed contact, billing and administrative information that are
| assigned to all domain names that are registered, no matter if you are
| the registrar for that domain name or not.
|
| Some believe that they will use this information to track down link
| spammers and fight spam at a higher level.
|
| Anyone at Tucows care to comment ;)
Poppycock.
Registrars only have access to the data they collect. There is no master
list.
My take? Google has become a registrar to take care of their own
corporate registration requirements just like Amazon did.
